of Saumur<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

For more than 3 centuries, Ch\u00e2teau La Salle<\/strong> has been known for its quality AOP Saumur wines.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Ch\u00e2teau La Salle is owned by Mr. Michel HOUDEBINE and still represents the noble house and great wines of the Saumur region<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The history of the Ch\u00e2teau de la Salle <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The land of Ch\u00e2teau La Salle is an ancient seigneury<\/strong>, documented in the archives as early as the 12th century.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At that time, Chateau La Salle extended over a vast territory in the Loire Valley<\/strong> region of France. The property stretches along the Thouet River (142 km\/ 89 miles longue), which rises at Secondigny and joins the Loire to the west of Saumur<\/strong> and is an important source for our vineyards. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The terroirs<\/strong> and the characteristics of the estate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Today, Ch\u00e2teau La Salle represents 80 hectares of terroir<\/strong> consisting of gravelly <\/strong>and calcareous clay soils of the Turonian type<\/strong>. The over 45 years old vines that grow here express personality and all the subtle and intense aromas of Chenin<\/a> and Cabernet grapes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to its location at the Thouet River<\/a>, the vineyards of the Ch\u00e2teau benefit <\/strong>from a delicate, temperate climate, perfect to produce dry and sparkling white wines<\/a><\/strong>, as well as Cabernet of a rare delicacy in fruity and greedy Ros\u00e9s<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The famous Saumur Brut of the region<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chenin Blanc <\/strong>is the one of the most famous grape varieties of the Saumur region.<\/strong> Chenin is our favorite grape variety to blend with Chardonnay<\/a> for our Saumur Brut production. This blend brings an aromatic intensity to the wine, balanced by freshness.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sparkling Saumur Ros\u00e9 <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At Chateau La Salle, we also grow some Cabernet Sauvignon and Grolleau Noir<\/strong>. These grape blends are used to make our Fines Bulles of Loire<\/strong>, Saumur Brut Blanc and Saumur Dry Ros\u00e9<\/strong>, which give a perfect tasting experience to our sparkling wines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sparkling Saumur and Cabernet Franc for a modern tasting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At the winery, we like to experiment with different flavors. Here, at Chateau La Salle, we also grow Cabernet Franc to produce<\/strong> some of the most aromatic, fresh and more “trendy” ros\u00e9s<\/strong>, generous and appreciated by young consumers.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sustainability <\/strong>at Chateau la Salle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The vineyards of Ch\u00e2teau La Salle are grouped around the estate and surrounded by hedges and groves. A true natural ecosystem dominates the environment.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We use the grass-covering technique to protect the soil, <\/strong>but also as a system to regulate the productivity of the vines. <\/strong>Our 19 beehives <\/strong>facilitate the pollination <\/strong>of all the flora of the vineyard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our vines are cultivated with the greatest respect<\/strong> for winemaking traditions and the environment. The wines produced at Ch\u00e2teau La Salle are all HVE3 certified<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
